As our children head back to school, we thought we’d take a look back at this wonderful photo from a few years ago, with teacher Betty Parsons and her smiling class from the 1963–64 school year.
Look closely and you may recognize the building in the background—it’s our beloved Queensborough Community Centre, once home to Queensborough's SS#3 school.
The school closed its doors in 1966, after which students were bused to Madoc Township Public School so this was one of the final groups of children who enjoyed attending school in this beautiful one-room schoolhouse. A wonderful glimpse into Queensborough’s history!

We are so blessed to live in a community where the spirit of togetherness and support has remained so strong over the many years. Local volunteers are instrumental to the success of our events. We are very appreciative of the time shared and the items donated in support of our community events over the course of the year.
Whether you have baked a pie or flipped pancakes over the grill, donated apple juice or decorated the path for the Trail of Terror, we thank you!!
And we would like to offer our sincere thanks to the folks at St. Mary's Refuge for all their hard work and generosity in preparing a delicious dinner for the community last month!
Live Music in Queensborough:
Concert at the Ark

Somewhere between a concert and one of The Ark’s song semi-circles, one of Canada’s premiere roots guitarists and songwriters—David Essig—will be visiting from his home on the West coast, to perform for us. With numerous solo recordings, countless production credits, and a couple of full length books, David is a consummate artist and Canadian treasure. Often seen in concert in larger venues, this will be a rare opportunity to experience the man and his work in an intimate environment.
Joining David and Noah will be Ed Michael Roth, a virtuoso on keys and accordion. Ed has made a career as a writer of music for TV and advertising, as well as in concert and on record, beginning his career in the latter capacity at Daniel and Bob Lanois’s studio when it was still in their mom’s home.

Movies in Queensborough: Family Matinées and Movie Nights
Saturday, September 12
Location: Queensborough Community Centre at 1853 Queensborough Rd.
Enjoy a shared movie experience in our historic community centre, the village's former one-room schoolhouse.
There is no entrance fee for movies. Arrive up to 30 minutes before showtime to get seats and buy refreshments - cash only. Donations are welcome to help cover operating costs.

Family Matinée at 1 p.m.
This month's matinée is Jumanji: The Next Level (2019) The gang returns to Jumanji to rescue one of their own, but nothing is as they expect - they are in a video game. The players have to brave arid deserts, snowy mountains and wild monkeys in order to escape the world’s most dangerous game. Rated PG
Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult
Movie Night at 6:30 p.m.
Our QMN adult classic movie this month is Stand By Me (1986), a coming-of-age drama directed by Rob Reiner and based on Stephen King's novella, The Body. Four small-town friends learn how deep their friendship goes as they head out on a quest to find a missing local boy.
Community Pig and Corn Roast
Sunday, September 13
5 to 7 p.m.

Bring the family! Bring yourself!
Gather with friends and neighbours to celebrate the harvest season and our community's farming tradition. Enjoy a great meal and a visit with your neighbours.
Locally raised pig, slow-roasted on a spit
Fresh corn, donated by Gaylene and John Gunning
Delicious salads donated by Trotter's Plumbing, Trotter Livestock and Bosley Heating and Cooling.
Cold drinks, coffee and tea
Plus a 50-50 draw!
This event is free of charge. Donations are gratefully accepted in support of Queensborough Community Centre events!

Turkey Supper at St. Andrew's Church
Wednesday, September 23

Location: St. Andrew's United Church at 812 Bosley Rd., Queensborough
It's Turkey Supper time! Enjoy this fall tradition at St. Andrew's Church.
Turkey supper with all the trimmings, followed by our specialty, homemade pie!
All are welcome.

Children 6-12: $8

Craft Night Fundraiser: Decoupage Pumpkins
Friday, September 25
Starts at 7 p.m.
Location: Queensborough Community Centre at 1853 Queensborough Rd.
Craft Nights are back after a summer break. This month, participants will make decoupage pumpkins. The cost for this project is $30 per person. This includes two fake pumpkins to decorate. As always, this is an event for ages 12+.
Please register with payment by Friday, September 18.
