Queensborough events - November Update

November 2026 Update
Queensborough history: A piece from the past
As Remembrance Day approaches, we think of the men and women, from across the country but especially from Queensborough, who played an active role in fighting for Canada and caring for our injured soldiers.
We are grateful to our friends who have recorded their memories, helping to keep our history alive. In Hazel Thompson's journal, we learn more about the day shown in this photo when the WWI infantry unit, the 155 Battalion, visited.
From Hazel: The armouries (at the Kiwanis Centre) was the training centre for 155 Battalion. Many of Centre Hastings' young men enlisted. Among them were Fred Glover, Harold Harris (both killed in action), Earl Burnside, Bert and Percy Franklin, Fred, Martin, Nelson La Palm. One day as part of their training, they marched from Madoc to Queensboro. The Red Cross women of Queensboro gave them their lunch and then they marched back.
Jennie and I had heard them talking about the Germans but like all kids, knew little about them. After La Palm and Franklin boys enlisted and got their uniforms, they came to see us. The two of us thought they were the Germans, and ran and hid. The soldiers who had been our friends were disappointed, and had a great time getting us to come out.
A wonderful glimpse into Queensborough’s history!

Queensborough Movie Night
Saturday, November 14
Location: Queensborough Community Centre at 1853 Queensborough Rd.
Enjoy a shared movie experience in our historic community centre, the village's former one-room schoolhouse.
There is no entrance fee for movies. Arrive up to 30 minutes before showtime to get seats and buy refreshments - cash only. Donations are welcome to help cover operating costs.
Based loosely on a true story, and featuring a stellar cast, The Great Escape (1963) is a war film about Allied prisoners of war during World War II.
The prisoners, many of whom have attempted escapes before, tap into their unique skill sets to plan and execute a massive breakout from a high-security German camp.
As The Great Escape has a long running time, we'll have an intermission to stretch our legs and get refreshments!
